The Denizens

Instead we come to
Conquer with an insatiable
Thirst for all the things
A landmark can spit out
For all the art, the evolutions
Of culture nailed hard and
Fast to the stream of
Foreigners who pervade
The land –
Ours has
(yet again)
become a conquering
Of material goods.

With golden eyes
And greedy hearts we
Hunt for the
Lowest bargains
The most beautiful
Piece of craftsmanship
Sold cheap
And we begin to stake our
As the wonders the
World around
Recede into the peripherals
Of ATM withdrawals and
Money changers

So I ask you
Why are you here?
